Electronics

Based on the increased needs for external engineering services of the industry we adjusted our service offering portfolio for vehicle electronic system engineering, design & development.
It covers the following principal engineering disciplines :
•   System Engineering
•   Communications & Network Engineering
•   Software Engineering
•   Electronic Engineering
•   Interface Engineering
•   Test Engineering & Verification Engineering as well as the supporting disciplines as
•   Product & Quality Assurance
•   Configuration Management and supplemented by
•   Consulting Engineering
under the lead of a sound and professional project management.

We support all phases from user requirements capture, specification, design, development,
test & verification and prototype.

With System Engineering, we  cover  the overall design, development, implementation and integration aspects of a system or subsystem  ( S/S ) in all phases from conception to pre-production.
It leads and co-ordinates the other more specific engineering disciplines but could as well be an integral part of an individual discipline ( e.g. Software System Engineering ).

Major responsibilities are:

•   User System Requirements Capture
•   System Requirements Engineering & Tracing
•   System Specification
•   System Design & Development Plan
•   Conceptual System and S/S Design
•   Architectural System and S/S Design
•   Detailed System and S/S Design
•   System and S/S Development & Implementation
•   System and S/S Assembly & Integration
•   Functional Modelling
•   Topological Modelling ( e.g. Slave / Controller / Master / MMI )
•   System and S/S Simulation
•   System Development Environment & Tools Suites
•   Tools:UML, AML, Analysis
Examples:OBU, embedded Systems, remote Access & Diagnosis, MMI, toll systems

With this engineering discipline, we cover the topics related to communication and network aspects of a system or subsystem. This covers the full range from virtual network design down to bus communication protocols.

Related topics are:
•   Network Requirements Engineering
•   Communication Requirements Engineering
•   User Requirements Specification
•   Network Modelling and Design
•   Secure WAN Services
•   Gateway Technologies
•   Protocol Technologies and Standards
•   Ad-Hoc-Communication
•   Inter-Vehicle Communication
•   Bread-Boarding
•   Fault Tolerant Communication
Tools: Analyser, Configuration tools, Modelling Software

Examples: LIN, Can & High Speed Bus Applications, Bluetooth, LAN, WAN,
WAP, GSM, UMTS Applications, Communication Controller,
Remote Access Technologies, Voice Applications

This engineering discipline is responsible for software and related aspects of a project.
This covers the full cycle from User Requirements Capture to Software product transfer
and after sales maintenance.

Related topics are :
•   S/W Requirements Engineering
•   S/W Requirements Tracing
•   Software Specification
•   Conceptual S/W Design
•   Architectural S/W Design
•   Detailed S/W Design
•   S/W Development, Coding & Implementation
•   System and S/S Assembly & Integration
•   Rapid Prototyping & Simulation / Emulation  ( MIL, SIL, PIL... )
•   Software Development Environments & Tools Suites
•   Software Commissioning and Transfer
•   Software Release Management
•   Tools :UML, AML, ASCED-SD, DOORS, dSPACE, Analyse, Java JVM, C++,
Target Code Generators, Debugger

Examples:PUSART S/W Application, Controller S/W Applications, MMI Applications,
Host-Target Systems, Middle Ware

The electrical engineering discipline is responsible for electric and electronic parts, components, power supply, electric networks and the related aspects of systems and subsystems. It also has to deal with actuators ( partly mechanical engineering ) and sensors.

Related topics are :
•   Requirements Engineering
•   Requirements Tracing
•   Electrical Specification
•   Selection and procurement of equipment
•   Conceptual Design of electric and electronic systems and subsystems
•   Architectural  Design
•   Detailed  Design
•   Development & Implementation
•   System and S/S Assembly & Integration
•   Rapid Bread-boarding & Simulation ( MiL, SiL, PiL... )
•   Tools :Simulation, measurement equipment, workshop set-up

Examples: Battery and Energy Management, Embedded systems, bread boards

Although Interface Engineering is mostly considered a co-ordinated activity to assure compatibility of the interfacing systems, and thus rather a configuration task, we understand that for many interfaces a dedicated engineering discipline should take overall responsibility for the complete design & development process of a technical interface.

•   Interface Requirements Engineering
•   I/F Control Document
•   I/F Specification
•   I/F Design ( might be one of the other disciplines )
•   I/F status monitoring
•   Breadboarding
•   Compatibility Control
•   Interface Standardisation
•   Generic Interfaces
•   Tools:please see other disciplines

Examples: Internal Interface Standards, allocation and adaptation of international or specific standards, harmonisation / negotiation of external interfaces with third parties

The testing of design & development results will be done at various stages and integration levels
according to the specific nature and set-up of the product and in accordance with specific clients requirements. Naturally it differs from series production testing. Verification Engineering supplements the overall D&D process and ensures the traceability of requirements from set-up to final results. Major aspects are :

•   Requirements Engineering Test & Verification
•   Test Plan / Specification
•   Verification Plan
•   Component ( Module ) / Subsystem / System Level Testing
•   Breadboard Testing
•   Protocol Testing / Virtual Network Testing
•   Model-in-the-Loop Testing ( MiL )
•   Hardware-in-the-Loop Testing ( HiL )
•   Lab Test Support
•   Support Qualification Testing
•   Support of Client's Tests on site
•   Environmental Testing ( to be subcontracted external ) - Mechanical, Thermal, Humidity and other areas etc.

Examples: Automated Testing, Test procedures, Subco Test Assessment
Quality Assurance takes care of the quality of the product as well as all related processes
and management procedures. Major responsibilities are :

•   Applicable QA Plans & Standards
•   Procedures for Review, Audit and Inspections
•   Standards for Design & Development
•   Standards for Test & Verification
•   Applicable Standards for Software Development Environment
•   Applicable Standards for Network Development Environment
•   Applicable Standards for Operating Systems Development Environment
•   Applicable Standards for Interfaces and Gateways
•   Applicable Standards for Hardware and Electrical Equipment
•   Adaptation of Client's QA Requirements

as well as the original discipline tasks as for example

•   FTA ( Fault Tree Analysis )
•   FMECA ( Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis )
•   Safety Analysis
•   Hazard Analysis
•   System Security Analysis

We prefer a proper adaptation of our clients QA requirements and procedures.
The purpose of Configuration Management (CM) is to establish and to control the
nominal configuration status of a project and to allows an efficient comparison
between nominal and actual status of a project ( build status control ).

Major CM elements are:
•   Configuration Management Plan
•   Engineering Change Proposal Tracking
•   Change Request Control
•   Non-Conformance Control ( NCR )
•   Version Control, Version Tracking and Release Control
•   Digital Rights Management
•   Key Point Inspections
•   Build Auditing
